Sometimes a document had to be sealed in the absence of all persons involved mentioned. The absentees would send a trustworthy person with a prefab seal in a seal case to have it fixed. In case of a brittle prefab seal the sealing clerk supported it by a beeswax bottom. The seal became a “saucer seal” or in Dutch “schotelzegel”.
