Waxseal bite as a “personal seal”
Published in Heraldicum Disputationes 9 (2005).
The website < www.dur.ac.uk/library/asc/seals > of the University of Durham shows among others a photograph of two seals from ca 1225. The seals belong to Robert of Stockport and his wife Mathilda. Robert seals with an equestrian seal. The marks on Mathilda’s seal (fig. 1) could possibly be her bite.
(I’m interested in pictures of other wax bite seals. Mail: ac-nc-zeven@hetnet.nl)
